I take this monkey’s stand will be, following the chapter naming pattern we’ve seen, “Strength”. As the gang searched the entire ship, unaware that a monkey could possess such power, it ‘befriended’ the girl. After asking for her to unlock the cage, showing her a recently cut apple, smoking, and reading some sexy magazines, she was pulled away from him by the sailors. Maybe we can put two and two together and presume this monkey fell in love with her, King Kong x Psycho. After some seriously cool pages of silence and horror, the monkey got up close and personal to the showering girl and that is when Jotaro saved the day; only after setting up the inhuman strength of an orangutan and showing what it could do on sailors that is.
My favorite part of this chapter was actually a small panel, the one of Joseph ensuring the girl that they are her friend. It ties into all of his previous interactions with her and I think encapsulates how he has grown. He’s had a daughter that he loves dearly and he treats this young girl so well. Offering her water, bonding with her, carrying her, and now this moment. Yeah he can still be a little reckless, but he’s not the same fiery punk he once was. He comes off far more as an understandably reckless, but put together, irritable and caring dad. His ease of ordering everyone to their places also showed this. I love how we can still see the old Joseph in him, but we can see how he grew and mellowed out.
