Hierophant Green saved Jotaro from a watery death and this new girl proved us to be a more likable character than Phantom Blood’s Poco, at least for me. Having all the manly men turn to her and consider her an enemy got a laugh out of me, but her unbridled confidence to pull a knife out and challenge them after nearly being eaten by a shark was great too. My favorite part however was Kakyoin laughing at her bold lies about all the killing she’s done. Kakyoin is adorable, as much as Polnareff is probably my favorite addition to the cast, and Joseph already has all the love in the world backing him, Kakyoin is a favorite of mine too. His quiet depth is something I find appealing, as much as he isn’t in your face, you see many sides to him.
Funny enough, as soon as Jotaro started smoking I wondered if he had always smoked. I never remembered seeing that before and quickly it became evident why. Here he used it to trick the captain. As preemptive as ever, he went around testing every single sailor with a dumb trick and he got the captain to admit his real role here, lololol.
Dio’s minion, the stand user of Dark Blue Moon, enacted the best strategy we’ve seen yet. Instead of brazenly announcing himself to the world, he took the order from Dio, he took down the former captain, he took his place, and he planned to kill the heroes one by one. As soon as he was revealed, he took a child hostage and tried to move into the best fighting arena he could muster, forcing them to follow to their disadvantage. Assuming he has a flesh bud, which he may not because those that do end up becoming friends and those that don’t are evil villains who can be killed without moral repercussions in the world, it would prove to us for one final time that Dio’s control doesn’t automatically make his minions into stupid evildoers.
Rather than chasing Dark Blue Moon into the ocean, Jotaro acted fast and saved the girl before the stand user even reached the water. It was an unexpected outcome but a good showcasing of Star Platinum’s abilities. What I actually loved however, was how just as the line about a prediction evoked the badass one liner of Avdol for me, it obviously did for Jotaro as well as they remarked on it. I bet Jotaro thought that was the coolest thing in the world when Avdol said the fortune teller line, he reads shounen jump after all, he’s just good at hiding his excitement. I swear!
P.S. The Speedwagon Foundation is like the most earned plot device I’ve ever seen.
