For all intents and purposes, Arifureta is a rollercoaster ride in my personal opinion. It starts as a 5 star classic in the first two volumes, falls into a 2-3 star novel in the middle parts, and ends as a 4-star novel. But the main story of this novel for me is not the best part of it. That novelty belongs to the side stories without a doubt. Shirakome created a vast number of interesting characters with their own crazy and hilarious quirks and puts them in situations that allow them to shine as characters. Almost all of the side characters gets their own time to shine and most of them end up being memorable even after their time is over.Even so, some of the wives of Hajime like Aiko and Lily were unnecessary in my opinion and should have remained as they were but other than that, the novel is solid. In any case, read the main story to get a scope on who each character is and then read the side stories to enjoy the hilarity that ensues.
