Is The Great Ruler full of plot holes as BTTH?

Is The Great Ruler full of plot holes and stupid acts where the enemy always escapes alive/last minute dramatic saves as BTTH?

Let me preface this by saying that I enjoy TGR & BTTH so I'm probably a bit biased.

Having said that, if you didn't like BTTH then you almost definitely won't like TGR. Both novels have similar plots where a young master has lost power/prestige and is striving to get more powerful for reasons of A, B & C using methods 1, 2 & 3.

TGR is slanted more towards tournaments, competitions than BTTH(other than mostly the Alchemy arcs). Since killing is not usually the goal it's not as frequent as in other Xuanhaun novels.

And yes, the MC will usually show up just in a nick of time before some dramatic action is set to occur or power-ups in mid-battle or a mysterious item he found earlier just happen to be what was needed

TLDR; If you didn't like BTTH, you most likely won't like TGR
