Spoiler: SpoilerAn Changqing (MC) was rebirth to his wedding night. During his first life time, he was forced to marry ML (Bei Zhen Wang) as ML request for the emperor to give MC to him as his wife. ML is a unlike and unloved prince of the emperor but is a genius in war and a general of the country. The Emperor dislike him due to some prophet saying ML is a jinx. ML mother died when he was young and it was she who saved his life by begging for the emperor to spare him. ML do not have much feeling towards his family as they all plotted against him due to him military power. In the first life somehow he managed to ascend the throne and make MC his empress.

MC was the shu son (basically not the main wife son), and the third son of the prime minister family. He was not liked by his father due to some reason when his father suddenly dislike his mother. He is a beauty acknowledged by all and has one sister. In the first life he was drugged and forced to marry ML. But ML has never forced himself on MC infact ML just care for MC by staying away from MC as he can feel MC is afraid of him. MC died of poisoning by his own father after ML ascend the throne as MC father support the deposed crown prince. MC when he died floated around ML and it was then he realized ML love for him when ML show fear during his death, ML revenge for him, ML mourning him and ML suicide because he cannot leave anymore without MC.

MC then reborn to the past when after guarding ML body which was thrown into a ditch by the deposed crown prince was demolish by the wild animals. Even in death ML held onto MC jade piece and when MC cried he found himself reborn.

So the story start with MC trying to get closer to ML testing his limits with ML and the cute misunderstandings. Also on how ML dotes on MC and their plan together against their enemy.

A) MC tried to let ML know he like ML as he persuade ML to sleep in the same bed with him. He tested ML limit by trying to take over the palace governance which ML fully support and actually expected him to do so. This lead MC to realized that in the past life ML has always been expecting him to exert his authority as his wife the duchess but MC was to cowardly at that time and let people bully him instead.

B) MC tried to get his mother out of their father house and ML helped him and even took time to try to find a doctor to treat MC mother. MC at that time already agreed to sit down for the doctor for a portrait when ML arrived and then they found out the doc is actually an army doc and owe ML a favor. ML of course just have the doc cart away to MC mother to help treat her and on the way took away the portrait of MC regardless of the doctor protest. Later MC found out ML was trying to draw another portrait of him as he feel only he as ML can draw MC. ML was very happy although he did not show it when MC said his drawing is much better (although it is not).

C) ML actually in first life and now just want to treasure MC so he forced the marriage to try to protect MC. When he return with MC on the third day to MC home he even help revenge on MC cousin who tired to rape him when MC was a child.

D) ML even help MC on MC plan to bring down his sister fiancée who in the past life resulted in his sister mistreatment and death. ML started teaching MC about tactics although that came about at one time when MC was bored and cannot sleep and ML read to him a war strategy book and MC dropped off to sleep. So it became a habit for them with ML ready war books and MC falling asleep (even when MC was drunk he demand ML do this and ML just do it).

ML in order to make MC happy but not knowing how has been asking his subordinate who told him to buy tidbits for wifey to eat, so people start seeing ML being lovely with MC buying these for him to eat and improve the image of ML.

MC remember during past life some of the disasters such as a long winter and heavy snow fall resulting in death and starvation. At first he do not feel any responsibility about it but later when he interact and received the people goodwill he began to realized his responsibility his position and ability bring him. So he figure out a way to tell ML about it saying it is a repetitive dream. MC was worry ML will not believe him but ML believe him and support him and is only concern he do not tell anyone else about it for his safety. The Royal family make fun of MC purchases of winter stuff but later the emperor even make use of this to make ML responsible for helping out people during the long winter.

ML got two brother the crown prince who later show that he want MC (lust only) and he is used to getting what he wants. HIs crown princess even help him on this and ML warned MC about it and MC feel so disgusted about it. Younger brother is a wolf in sheep clothing as MC remember him being more ruthless than others during last life throne fight.

At this point of the story where i am at, there is war at the borders and ML is there. Crown prince person burn the food to cause problem to ML and third prince people corruptly send sand instead of food to some of the army. MC remember that in the past even though ML won but a lot of people died and ML won it hard. So MC collect as much food as he want and get approval from the Emperor who does not care about anything and go to border to be with ML. ML was happy to see him and sad he come to suffer together. (Sweet moments - in that area it is arid so u need to put cream on hand and feet and ML was helping MC putting it and MC said will u do it for me every day and ML said Yes)

After the war came the situation with the Jade mines as their neighbouring country also want to get the mines and have send a general to it. It is actually a ploy by the Regent of the country who wanted to negotiate with ML for 2 year of no war while he deal with his internal issue. And when the Regent saw MC at a market, he was shocked cause MC looked very much like a person in an old portrait in their palace handed down by the first king. The first king who said if they ever meet the person with the similar features to say the treasure is kept and they have pay back their debt. So MC became like the key to a huge treasure and ML agreed with the regent request on the basis to protect this information to protect MC.

It was here they found out MC was pregnant. Unlike other Mpreg novels i read, this one is a bit more realistic. MC is not sure how he can become pregnant and everyone is shocked. It was an orphan who MC saved that gave them some clue and by tracking it they suspect MC is actually has the blood of the mermaid (?) in him who are able to become pregnant male or female. Later MC mother explained that when MC was around 4, he grew scale on some parts of his body although this later dropped off after his fever but this is the reason why his father dislike MC and MC mother. MC father wanted to kill MC but MC mother saved him. ML was actually all for an abortion cause to him MC is more important esp when he learn in order to have the children, MC will need to have them surgically removed which make him very scared he might lose MC.

Meanwhile as the Emperor imposed more tax on the people to build pagodas, (just to lengthen his life or he was so told), the people started to rebel. In the original life, the 3rd prince even poison a river to kill of the rebels but it ended up killing a lot of innocent civilians and the emperor to cover this up even kill off all people affected. This time, round MC and ML managed to prevent this tragedy from happening. ML when he was send by the emperor to deal with this situation even took the opportunity to consolidate his power, reputation and get more wealth. MC at that same time has grown much in reputation, esp when he gave craftman the idea of water wheel, use of gun powder and introduction of sweet potato resolving hunger problem.

ML rush back after dealing with the rebellion and MC gave birth to a pair of Phoenix twins. Then they have to return to the capital and ML pass the twins off as someone has given birth to them for him but MC will be their father. But he do not want MC to not have the glory of being their 'mother' so even spread the news of MC as being a 'diety' from heaven so he can give birth.

In capital there are plots that ML and MC has to faced and deal with. The royal family is broken with the empress and crown prince in one and the Su consort and third prince in another. The crown prince has shown interested in MC before and MC rebuke him back on this. And it was found out the crown prince is a sadist and like to torture women and this was used to bring him down. Later the crown prince rebel and kill of the third prince. MC was defending their home till ML return from a mission (send out by the emperor). MC is well loved by the people and they rose up on his defend finding enough time for ML to come home and resolve all the issue.

ML deal with his father (who protect the crown prince when he kill ML mother) and became emperor.

The war raged on and ML in order to win sneak into the army royal camp to kill the king and crown prince to cause the enemy to have a succession civil war. ML planned this with his army but did not tell MC lying to MC he is going out for fight. When ML was chased by the enemy after killing their king he and his army ran into a forest and the enemy though they have been killed and took their flag back as proof. This cause a disturbance in ML army and when MC learned about it he act as the pillar of support using his status to rally the army and people again to defend the city till ML came back.

When ML return MC was annoy with him and ML hug him from behind and feel asleep on MC. MC soften and bring him back with him to rest. Although when ML recover MC was annoy and angry till ML promised never to lie to him again. ML then over react when he saw MC hands full with wound and boils (due to abrasion from hitting the war drum continuously). ML was more seriously injury but more concern with MC and making sure MC do not do anymore work or activity.

Then ML friend from another city arrived (previously MC found out there are a few jade deposits in another area and no one is aware of it. ML ask someone to send letter to his friend who guard that city to verify and capture these mines). It is from him we found out why ML marry MC (even in the first life). It turn out this friend of ML lied to him saying MC has a lover (who is his cousin) and MC even accept the token of love from his cousin. In fact MC has no idea what his cousin was talking about since his cousin is expressing his love in poetry (and MC is blur on this subject) and MC is being polite and nice to him cause he need to or else he will be punish. So came the misunderstanding between MC and his cousin (who though MC like him and has accept his love). ML friend know this but he used this to push ML to make his move and ML really went to get a marriage with MC to be declared

Turn out ML and MC met when they were children at a royal hunting event. At that time ML mother is still alive and he noted MC among all the children. As MC did not even try to get close to anyone and was looking loss and cute alone. So ML became a playmate with MC and they were very happy together. ML even protected MC when MC was once bullied by others. ML actually promised MC that he will protect him and had planned to get MC as his study mate so MC can be protected. But his mother died and then his life became bad until he go to the army at age of 12. When he returned he found out MC has forgotten about him (MC was pushed into a pond at age 10 and had high fever and lost part of his memory) so he do not want to disturb MC life as he now has a bad reputation. But he get people to watch over MC and assist MC like paying for MC mother medicine when MC is low on funds or making sure they get coal during winter. ML friend is the one who ML asked to look after MC so he decided to push ML after knowing how much ML like MC
