Well there're 3 major story arcs with each focusing on a different country/empire so there's definitely going to be plenty of drama and intrigue. I can't answer the rest of your question since I haven't read more more than a couple chapters ahead of what I'm translating (the chapters are looong) 

I didn't read this but  from the novel covers, I think the ML is the second prince.
