I believe Griffith blamed Guts a fair share for what happened. In his eyes, Guts is the one who led him astray from his "true purpose" in life. It's Guts' fault for breaking him and the subsequent torture that followed because of that. The first thing he tried to do when he reunited with Guts was to try strangling him. You can see in a lot of instances when they broke him out of jail, the malice with which he looked towards Guts. The malice he felt though, was parallel to a great love and admiration towards him, too. And since Griffith is a very emotionally immature person he didn't know how to deal with these new found feelings of finally seeing someone as an equal and a friend. So, I'd say it's a mixture of both.
I'll agree with that , its probably a mixture of both
