I think the implication of the plane is just that there are people trying to survive a dying planet by simply not living on it. I assume they're filthy rich (and their corporations are to blame for climate change). I wonder what they eat/drink up there though?

It looks like the airplane is a living thing. Considering there are robots in that world, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a living plane.

That is one weird looking airplane.

Pretty sure it'll be brought back up later on in the manga.
