I never really got why the King of Soul Society wants to start a war with the people he assigned to protect Soul Society.
That is the main problem.
As far as we are concerned it was not said that he did appoint SS to anything and if he did it was probably just to obtain a tool to control people.
He's not the 'King of soul society', he's the king of everything and every soul while being connected to the whole universe as Aizen implied.
He should not be grouped with pseudo king like Barragan that made himself the king of hueco mundo but was just an individual with more power.
More than a king he is closer to a god, he's a different individual connected to everything and not simply an individual with power.
Soul society was probably profitable for him until it started to go too much liberal. The way it is going it's only a matter of months or years before SS start to question itself about the necessity of said king and his guard while becomming a stronger force every day.
If SS isn't going the way the soul king want it he will destroy it. The soul king is much much much older than SS and it would be pretty much naive to think that there wasn't any society in power before SS and it's not impossible to deny the possibility of soul king having destroyed said society because they started to get in his way.
The way I see it, to the spirit king, SS is just another era. He will destroy it, human will die and soul will group together. Amongst these group of souls the stronger one will take the lead of said group then form clan then another society. Even if SS is destroyed it's only a matter of time before another society raise up and take control. To him this is probably just the blink of an eye.
