He wasn't shown to be a chauvinistic pig, he was just doing his job.

That still does not change the fact that SS has sent a team of heavy hitter captains to deal with urgently smaller matter they should not involve themselves with, is still actively hiding truth from Ichigo, did not tell him everything and is awfully more interested in situation than just "lets help ichigo".
Obviously they have their own personal reasons for doing so, they've always been hiding things from Ichigo.

He's also supposed to be a genius, not some whiny rich brat who should have had the power to tip the scale in the Fullbringers' favor but chose not to. Then he allows himself to be distracted by his own sob story so his feet and his power gloves can be frozen.
It has nothing to do with whether or not he's a psychopath, that doesn't excuse these stupid actions. He's only doing this because the plot needs him to.

For now, all it means is that Aizen is measuring stick for Renji. He wants to be able to face those kings of opponents and not get disabled in one hit.Aizen is the mettle for renji.
Good luck trying to defeat an immortal, overpowered being who easily trolled most of the captains in Fake Karakura Town. Maybe Renji should set more reasonable goals like trying to surpass Byakuya.
