This chapter pretty much sums up what makes the conflict against Chao so meaningful. Negi is forced to accept that, based on his limited knowledge he might be the bad guy in this case. But, he is also doing the best he can with the knowledge he has, and in the end; if he doesn't give it his all, he cannot accomplish anything, good OR bad.
