It seems like I was right that Makubex was doing this for Emishi, though he also has some other reason it seems. This chapter was just flat-out fun though. I loved Akabane questioning if it mattered if they were sliced to pieces with Makubex "try to capture them alive" and Ginji freaking out about him only have to try. But the best was Emishi hiding in a cat and trying to trick Shido with a "meow".
