Yeah the author himself said they had to cut and shorten it a lot. It's done much better in season 2 of the anime.

As usual, I thought the scenes between Kaoru and Kenshin were well done. I can't say the same thing for the fight between Sano and Anji, it felt as though Anji's back story was insanely abbreviated and I just couldn't particularly care about it. Children dieing=tragedy seemed to be the idea, but it needed to be more fleshed out.

Maybe it's because I've been watching One Piece right now and am expecting the same depth of character development? Either way, I hope the next couple battles will hold up to the series usual fantastic standards.

This arc wasn't bad, I mean it wasn't the most exciting thing I thought was going to happen, but since it's just a Jupongatana fight, there should still be more exciting and interesting things.

The monk's motivation was too simple really.

Sano applied Natsu's technique, apparently in the world of ruroken you can imbue your fists with your emotions and bam you won bro BUT just if your emotion is more strong than the oponent's rage.

Looks like Anji's will has been broken, I'm surprised Sano even won..
