Abe-no-Kaii will stop at nothing to kill Ittou. It seems like he'll start using innocent people in order to get him. I thought that Jinnai was a lousy shinobi to get captured like that, but looks like I was wrong. He was still loyal to Retsudo.

                        Abe-No-Kai tries to kill Diagoro by poisoning the river near where Diagoro is swimming. Diagoro is able to notice something is wrong since fish are dying and pushes the water away from him before getting out. Itto notices as well and wonders what kind of a beast of a man could do something like that. Itto takes the cart into the water and tries to remove the water that's heavily tainted with poison so that it doesn't end up killing other people.

Abe-No-Kai realizes he can use Itto's unwillingness to harm innocent people against him. Abe-No-Kai also tries to turn Retsudō's spy by getting him addicted to opium and forcing him to work for the drug. The spy reveals Retsudō's plan to Abe-No-Kai to make it seem like he'll work for him, but in truth, it's so he can be let go to tell Retsudō the truth before committing seppuku. In the end, Retsudō realizes he needs to kill Abe-No-Kai himself before moving on to Itto.
