Kannon-sama has descended once again. another epic 2 page spread by Togashi.

8 chapters in, and 2 to go before Togashi goes on hiatus again. Another 3 month wait that could possibly kill my interest despite my optimism. I know that he wasn't really known to work like a slave for Shueisha by writing 40+ chapters a year, like other WSJ manga-ka, but I do hope that he musters up the motivation to finish this. This arc, while quite enjoyable, isn't up to par as the previous ones (York Shin in particular). There's still so many unattached strings that, in addition to the frequent hiatuses, it will take ages until HxH reaches a conclusion. Can't Togashi just finish this, retire, then swim in all the money that he and his wife (Naoko Takeuchi, manga-ka of Sailor Moon) made over their careers as manga-ka?

Sorry for the rant. I'm getting quite irked by the hiatuses that I fear that I should this along with X/1999 and Berserk, as manga that I fear I'll never see a conclusion to.

AUGH.  I'm glad things are finally getting going again, but the cliff hangers are killing me.

Regarding Morau and Yupi, I just don't like how that story's playing out.  Yupi's character is changing too much and I am of the opinion that this is caused by the fact that Togashi didn't get to fully develop the character before going on his hiatuses and hence doesn't really have a solid foundation for how he should be reacting in the situation.  None of the characters are really developed in this Saga for that matter.  The most are Meruem and Neferpitiou, and they're still weakly defined.

Pretty good chapter overall, but the characters just aren't convincing, aren't lovable as they have been.

I agree with you regarding Yupi's character. This sudden change from monster, driven by blind rage to a seemingly honorable warrior was quite bad.

It was to big of a twist in my mind. It could now turn him into being a good guy and we will all know if gon has to face him, he will go easy because of that. Now its like that even if he survives he wont pose much of a threat now.

AUGH.  I'm glad things are finally getting going again, but the cliff hangers are killing me.

What Netero did in this chapter was definitely in the category of "for the greater good," but with Meruem that down on his guard, expecting some kind of civil response--that just showcases how corrupt human beings are.  It's a cry out from Togashi's Chapter Black Saga in Yu Yu Hakusho.  The human race does not deserve to be so powerful because they are too chaotic, too inherently destructive.  There are plenty of alternatives that the President could have taken besides attack (I'm sure Meruem will be fine) that would have avoided the ensuing battle.  The possibility for peaceful resolution is gone at this point.

It's pretty insane how the whole Palace Invasion gets better and better with almost every chapter, considering that it pretty much already started out as amazing.

The King seem to have quite a plan for his future ready, and no longer appears at all as evil. He's still very much a villain, but definitely a big change from his first appearance. His goal of ruling the world is the same, but his motivation for doing so is completely different.

And its important that The King is the one that wants to talk, and Netero attacking him when he is sitting down. It does really fit with the theme of the darkness of humanity that Togashi is going for in this arc.

From day one Youpi has shown the ability to adapt to his situation, remember how he grew wings simply because they looked useful when Pouf was using them? The ants in general have been shown to develop to a staggering degree, Youpi even more so. So, no, I don't think it's strange for him to develop in this direction. Surprising, yes. But, considering how the King is turning out it isn't unbelievable.

The King setting down and wanting to talk it out was, imo, brilliant. Again, it's a surprise but it's not out of character when you consider his experiences with Komugi. It also starts an extremely interesthing theme of "ant vs. human" when it comes to these aspects of his character.

THIS IS AN MANGA ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS CHAPTER.

Hmm. I didn't really expect the King to move that way.

Though it was most likely because of Komugi being attacked.

I think in the end the Ant side will win since it wouldn't be exciting if the human side does.
