Dragon Ball Chapter 442 Discussion

I love how tough this chapter makes Videl seem

Nice series of chapters we've just gotten. I like the mystery with Supreme Kai's appearance, and it's clear he's there because whatever Spopovich's deal is, and getting to experience that was certainly odd. I like that Videl was the victim here too, as mean as that sounds. She got to seem pretty awesome though, she was definitely the better fighter and she even broke his neck, granted it didn't hurt him but it did allow Videl to show some skill. And she definitely showed some grit choosing to get beaten to a bloody pulp instead of giving up. I liked seeing Gohan's increasing frustration and rage at the situation, and it helps build up anticipation for Gohan vs. Spopovich.

This is definitely my least favourite fight in the series. At this point, the series is at its most "normal" and Videl is one of the new characters that are part of this normal world (in contrast to Gohan who is part of the wacky martial arts world from earlier arcs). The fight itself is also pretty much just a brawl of regular world fighters, except the short part where they're both flying. That makes the violence against Videl stand out and it becomes pretty uncomfortable to read imo. The arc so far has been mainly comedic so it's a bit jarring to the tone as well. It also doesn't help that Videl is one of the few female fighters in the series and this is her defining fight.



I also would have loved to see Videl actually accomplish something after her training. Small spoiler for the arc,
but she never actually does anything after this. All that character buildup, relationship with Gohan and training for the tournament, and it leads to absolutely nothing. Gohan doesn't ever get to avenge her either and she's completely fine in the next chapter anyway. So this level of violence feels unnecessary.

Well as I hear videl was actually stronger than him. Since he had infinite stamina she got tired. and he carryed on to beat her up

Biddel loses the match, but was the best!!! :(
