I'm guessing that she was hoping that if he denied it, then she could continue to live in the fantasy that she'd created (That she was happy and that her boyfriend was someone who she could trust).  However, if he admitted it, then the illusion she saw would be broken immediately.  She wanted to trust him, and could only do so if he pretended to be the boyfriend she thought he was.  Or at least, that was my interpretation of it :)

Don't understand the logic though. Had he lied, she would have stayed with him, but because he told her the truth she broke it up?
