After watching the anime remake a number of times, I'll say that this chapter alone was worth picking up the manga and giving the full story another go. It really adds some finishing touches to the theme of healing and the process it takes to mend life's scars.
What moved me the most was seeing how Akito now understands the time & commitment it takes to start over & nurture new bonds. The sentiment about spending years & decades to thaw everyone's hearts is particularly poetic, as it goes hand in hand with that theme about how feelings gradually move forward with nothing remaining unchanged.
I understand why Isuzu can't forgive Akito at this point, but I'd like to think that through careful cultivation, she may one day feel differently to be completely free of the trauma inflicted.
