Fruits Basket Chapter 84 Discussion

I forgot that Yuki's backstory is maybe even sadder than everyone else, given that he really had no one who loved him. He couldn't interact with the others, isolated. I can understand why he would hate Kyou's wanting to become part of the 12 zodiac, when that was the cause of all his pain. I was already crying, but seeing Yuki's tears while clutching Kyou's hat definitely made me cry harder. I'm honestly surprised that Yuki isn't more broken, having to suffer all the mental abuse from Akito.

This manga puts an interesting spin on the "chosen one" trope. Akito is the most powerful of all the zodiacs, and is basically God, but is the most abusive, cruel, and despicable character out of them all. I'm really enjoying this trope subversion.

It absolutely guts me to see how Yuki & Kyo could have been best friends if not for the tremendous suffering brought on by their roles as Zodiac members.

My heart aches for Yuki his backstory is so touching and heartbreaking. Not only did he have to be abandoned by his mom, he was also forced to live with someone who emotionally abused him on a daily basis, not being able to return home, and even had to give up on having friends, while also feeling insignificant to his family or hated by Kyo for no reason. I am glad that despite how traumatizing his past was he has come such a long way.

                        Damn...almost shed a tear ;__;

Yuki's backstory was so touching.

I don't think any manga has evoked this much emotions from me, well except Honey & Clover.

this was such an emotional chapter.

glad we’re getting more information on yuki’s backstory. it broke me when yuki was fascinated by kyo because of his orange hair but kyo immediately hated him because yuki was the rat. i wonder what broke akito though.
