It's the classic play on being threatened by the new kid on the block.  It's sad, but it's show business.  They're always looking for someone new, to replace the older person.  Start training the new talent, and then next thing you know, you've just trained your replacement.  Similar to that actor, that was with Medusa, she wanted to leave at the height of her career.  At her prime, when she was at her best.  When no one, no matter how hard they trained, could surpass her.  Though unlike actor guy, she was actually talented.  He was just a pretty face that was considered a legend, because death makes everyone glamorous.
