This Niida dude is really stupid. I'm guessing he just wants to have sex with her so bad that's why he didn't just keep firing crossbow bolts until she died.
That being said why toss it aside when he shot her in the leg? Now he put himself into an unnessary melee battle where he has a blunt weapon and she has a piercing one lol.
