its these little things that eventually caused zeon to lose the war,

the zeon soldiers they had were always too kind, while the federation didn't care about civilians and just glassed entire colonies they didn't like.

if those soldiers shot the kids on sight their whole master plan wouldn't have failed. instead of tieing them up, they couldn't bring themselves to shoot the children and wanted to bombs to deal with them since they wouldn't have been there to see their deaths etc, even if you ignore this its just sensitivity issues.

also many of the soldiers who led a sneak attack on white base almost succeeded but hesitated to shoot some of the younger members of the crew.

same with that explosive kamikaze ship with bombs etc, if she just shot amuro without conversing with him it would have been done deal.

Zeon got massacred in this battle and it looks like Char was the only one to get away. Unfortunately for the Federation, Zeon now knows where Jaburo is so they can start a proper siege.

Well, they kind of already knew where Jaburo was. The question more was getting in, as Jaburo is kind of the proto-Geofront. The real difficulty is how do you get in. Char sort of figured that out by finding out the underwater package, that let them open the door. Presumably, General Garcia would have been fully besieging the fortress to prevent supply vehicles and reinforcements (and consequently, White Base and the Gundam) from coming in and out. However, I get the impression that in order to do that he would have needed M'Quve's troops, and, well, I'm surprised that M'Quve hasn't become some sort of internet meme symbolizing apathy.
