Urusei Yatsura Chapter 247 Discussion

The Last Date! It's a legendary chapter.



Rumiko Takahashi and some of her editors cite this chapter as one of their favorites of the entire series. It's simply amazing.



I remember reading somewhere the idea for this chapter came from one of Takahashi's editors who wanted a story that portrayed Ataru in a positive light. Not sure if that's true because I can't seem to find where I heard it anymore. But I think it's believable.



This isn't the first time Ataru acted kind of course. There was the time when he took care of a caterpillar and also when he helped the Rain Girl Tsuyuko in one of the earlier chapters. Ataru is capable of being a decent human being when he tries.



He can be a horndog sometimes but most of the time I think it's pretty clear that he's kind towards girls despite how he acts. He showed no hesitance to help Ran or Ryoko when he heard they were in trouble multiple times and of course, he'd never let anything happen to Lum even if he won't admit doing so.




The OG anime adaptation of this chapter was also amazing. And I can't to see how the Remake adapts it. Yes, it was already confirmed to be in Season 2.
