The Principal wasn't really a creep after all. He's a pretty nice dude. But I'm sure Ataru would've hated it if he kissed his hand regardless.




The Obstacle Course Swim Meet chapters were actually adapted together in an OVA released all the way later in 2008. It was the 12th and final OVA of Urusei Yatsura made to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Rumiko Takahashi mangas in Weekly Shonen Sunday starting with Urusei Yatsura in 1978.



For that reason alone the OVA felt very special as the last UY anime content released way back in the 90's. It was another reunion and a celebratory project.



I think the OVA changed and added some things too to make it feel more special. Like the pool scene where Lum almost drowned was a bit more intimate IIRC. And also added characters who weren't there in the manga like Ryoko, Ran, Benten, and Oyuki. It was truly special.



It was the last time we saw Ataru and Lum and the others voiced by their original voice actors. And probably the first time UY was animated digitally. It was great. And it made me want an UY Remake which we got almost 15 years later.
