The joke about Lum having a different speaking style doesn't translate well because none of the characters have their unique speaking styles in the English translation compared to the Japanese version of the manga...



Lum has a very distinct speaking style which I believe was based on a specific type of girls who'd probably be called gyarus today. One of the most recognizable part about it is that she ends every sentence with -cha. Doesn't sound too natural in English so I understand its omission. Even the subtitles omitt them.



But the fact that the translators didn't even try to give any of the characters a unique speech pattern (at least something that's recognizable) is pretty disappointing.




The anime adaptation of this chapter episode 90 was wildly different. It could easily create controversies if it aired today.
