Chrno Crusade Chapter 45 Discussion

                        ----------------------------------------

Am I alone or is pandaemonium way too confusing.  It's now been awaken and it's caused a tsunami to decimate New York.  I'm not a fan of being in the completely unknowing group in a mystery themed story, it sometimes feels as if a carrot is being dangled in front of our face with only small parts of truth falling off of it at times.  Much better than the anime but I'd still like to be given more.  That being said, I could be missing out on these answers due to my slow and casual reading.  I don't think I am though.  I also think the problem emerges from the focus being the plot and the plot being so cloudy.  Something like Eva gives us lots to focus on while the mysterious plot unravels.  Chrno Crusade sometimes feels like we're only watching a mysterious plot unravel.  Especially when it all happens at once like this.

Aion tricked Duke by letting him beat him to the point his arm was dangling off so that when the Oratorio started it would freeze Duke in an attempt to stop the attack.   If he hadn't been distracted by Aion and didn't hold his pride so highly then he may have been able to stop this.  Instead pandaemonium is sending her chains on all her subordinates, the demons, because you need a horn to be directly connected with her.  It was a move to try and cover the most amount of threats as possible, but Joshua is the exception, he doesn't have he 'umbilical cord' attached to pandaemonium; yet he still has the horns.  He can connect to her with his 'antenna' without her being able to stop him and he uses the power of the other apostles to send her into shock and start attacking.  Interesting and well thought out.  It's a lot dropped on us at once, and I'm not sure how well it'll pan out in the long run but it's been foreshadowed by the fact that Aion didn't have horns.  It was all to perpetrate this plan.

To fight without horns Aion uses jewels with his contractor within them?  That's why inserting it into his sword instantly healed him.  It confuses me on who this is, I suppose it could be Fiore since she uses jewels but she's human and could die from the life Aion is sucking out of her.  It's far from what he referred to as being invincible.  So, I'm curious what exactly is going on.  Either way it's a nice solution to losing one's horns so I'll give him that.  It's possible Fiore put his contractors soul in the jewel itself but even then it feels like it could be used up.  We did see in the Chrno Magdalene flashback that a soul could go in the seal so it's not unheard of.

Satella(previous called Stella in my translation) saved the day and it seems that the best bet to stopping this all is Joshua recognizing Rosette.  Chrno's speech about how creating a new world is still killing all the life on the the current was pretty moving.  I guess you need to be a pretty lonely person to wish that.  It's somewhat reminiscent to
Van's plan in tales of the abyss, he even had a squad he was fighting for freedom from the score with alike the sinners.  I wonder if they're connected at all or if both were inspired by the same thing.
