The creators are taking this arc in a completely different direction than all the previous arcs. It feels like there are a dozen running gags going on now, and that last bit of narration at the end of the chapter was pretty funny at how ominous such a line was in a pretty ridiculous arc.

i actually like the direction, it feels like entirely new manga in this way, much more like gag with action turning slowly to more serious as it continues, i love it.
