I'm re-reading it for the second time and only now it clicked for me that Fly Man story about how he became what he is now is a clear Shout Out to the horror movie "The Fly". The only difference is that I think the scientist there was trying to invent teleportation not cloning but I vaguely recollect that even the devices looked very similar to the ones here.
