                        ----------------------------------------

Hirata after mocking Gai for not being able to kill someone hissing “murderer” at him reminded me of Kazuya doing similar in Kaiji.  “Murderer…” Poetic irony at its finest.

And then the call to all the other kids to come in and finish this fight off once and for all totally gave me flashbacks to the homeless group in the homeless war against the biker gang.  Frail, and unbelieving but able to possibly act as the final push to reach victory!

Gai confirmed almost immediately that he actually knew Sawai is a no good hostage.  Honestly for this to have worked Sawai needed to be knocked out so I think that was all intentional!  They made Hirata go through the same paranoia and torture as Ishihara did when Sawai injected him with the bluff that he would die and Hirata immediately broke and went along with the plan.  I really liked the panel of Gai with the viper behind him…  If only they really injected him with such poison though because Sawai struck back yelling out the window and redeemed himself to his boss.  I understand why because even if Sawai wanted Hirata to go down, if he does so does Sawai.

The reveal that Gai still had one trick under his sleeve was fantastic.  Every kid here was brought out for inspection, this is one of the rare times this could ever work which is yet another narrative reason why the moral dilemma of a fake Gai was cut short!  And Hirata who sees them as trash showed his weakness, literally not seeing the humans in front of him, the humans that could tear them down.  It will be bloody but perhaps all that’s needed is to keep them busy as Gai goes for the boat, if he gets out and has all the keys then the institute is as good as done.

By the way, I love seeing Gai, Ogawa, and Ishihara walk together in their slick outfits.  Seeing them walk outside like victors and having the guards move for them felt so good.  This was a charming way to give Gai a climactic end!
