Buraiden Gai Chapter 7 Discussion

                        I knew this series would be fucked up (This is a Fukumoto manga afterall) but yeesh. Reminds me a bit of Rainbow with the juvenile prison setting.

With his bald head covered by the hat and his sadistic demeanour I didn't even recognize this man in charge.  In fact, once he had the top of his head covered I thought to myself that he looked like Nobio from Shin Kurosawa, I didn't even think he looked like himself!  That is all Gai meant by “he’s that man”, I see.  That’s a charming way to introduce a villain seamlessly, a way Fukumoto has definitely done with others before.  I the personal feeling of having someone come in the story out of nowhere with a small role only to end up being way more important than we’d expect.



This continued to feel like Battle Royale with how one kid fought back and immediately was answered with gunfire to send a message.  A message that clearly worked as everybody started to obey the orders due to fear.  A complete inverse of what happened last chapter when Kurata picked on him and he took it, here he was shot in the kneecap with a rubber bullet.  Even Gai was scared and seeing him so freaked out weirdly made me feel the same way I felt when I first saw Dio scared in Jojo.  He's such a composed, confident, and smug person only really showing emotions with gritting his teeth or sweating.  And although it wasn't the sadism when it came to such a jerk showing fear like Dio, it was still pleasurable in the sense that it feels good to see he is human.  He instantly followed orders so it seems Abe’s words did get through to him!  He is using real power now, not pitiful power.



What we know is that there have been a lot of kids brought here probably in the same way.  The officers here are experts and act like this is nothing new, and the guy that has been in charge so far is completely sadistic.  He’s mocking these kids and shooting them with a smile.  Beyond that there are what looks like prison walls surrounding them.  And Gai was kicking himself for not taking his chance to escape which is an interesting point.  You would expect him to take his chance to escape there since he was willing to crush on anyone to get by, yet he didn't and I think it may have been due to the thankfulness that he felt for this guy bringing them food in the rain.  A moment of kindness in Gai.  It's a bit frustrating though because even I noted how weird this guy's behavior was and I expect Gai to be way smarter than me, he should have thought about this more!!!  That is mostly in jest though.
