Synopsis
The Lao Bai family was far too famous in the village; first, for their incredible ability to produce only sons, and second, for being so poor that they had nothing but four bare walls.
Everyone said that the Lao Bai family could only reverse their streak of bad luck and poverty if they were blessed with a daughter.
While they didn’t get the daughter they hoped for, they ended up picking up an adopted daughter instead.
This adopted daughter was the physical incarnation of a Lucky Koi, bringing ever-increasing prosperity to the Lao Bai household.
When she went down to the river to catch fish, the fish would leap into her arms of their own accord; when she went up the mountain to catch rabbits, they would throw themselves against trees; and when she went to dig for mushrooms, the mushrooms in her hands would turn into ginseng.
The Lucky Koi adopted daughter led the entire family through farming and business to become the wealthiest in the land, bringing such fortune that her older brothers found success in both the imperial civil and military examinations.
