I believed that my husband was gradually opening his heart, even though our marriage was the result of my unrequited love.
“So, who is the father of the child in your womb?”
I was immediately stunned by this sudden question. As soon as I announced my pregnancy, his response struck me.
“Why, why would you ask that? It’s your child after all…”
“Hyacinth. I could not have embraced you.”
“…..”
“Let’s get divorced after you give birth. This is the maximum leniency I can show, not exposing your infidelity.”
I am honest with him. That night, we were clearly together.
I gazed at him bewildered, but his impassive face was as calm as an icy wall.
“…Why did you marry me?”
“Did I want to?”
I had no choice but to accept it.
The truth that all my previous struggles were pointless, and the reality that my efforts had no impact on him whatsoever.
I was the only one clinging to a relationship as fragile as a sandcastle.

In contrast, the protagonist here is proactive yet grounded within her limits. She openly expresses her emotions, which stands out against the typical reclusive and anti-social archetypes. It's a breath of fresh air.
My one concern is that I hope the author won't make the ML's redemption too facile. At the current stage, it seems difficult to justify how they could atone for their past actions. Another pet peeve of mine is when authors set up a complicated situation for the ML but then offer an easy escape from their consequences. Redemption should be earned, not handed over on a silver platter just because they are the ML. A permanent separation, with the Duke acknowledging his mistakes, would be satisfactory. If not, I'd prefer it if they genuinely apologized and sought forgiveness for years, because I believe healing such deep trauma requires more than a superficial apology.
