I don't mind love triangles, squares, or whatever they are, and I don't mind pulling my hair because of the situations that occur, tragedies, or changes in the characters' minds.

The thing is, the main character "Shuuka" is simply a slut. You can't enjoy a manga if the main character is unreasonable. I'm not against being with different people in a manga; all shoujo stories have those elements. But the way it's presented in this manga totally ruined it. Sorry, again, this is a review, but I must include it as a warning. I won't reveal the ending or names so you won't know specifics, but the main character flits from one man to another, sleeps with them all. And that's not the worst part yet. The worst part is that this happens every 3 chapters or so, and for no particular reason. She slept with one of the love interests just because he brought her a nice table with food when she was tired? Totally unreasonable. Don't be deceived by this manga. The story seems good, and the art is also good, but the 16 chapters were so fast-paced and full of unreasonable acts. It was a total waste of my time because I value reasonable/logical events and conclusions. I hate fast-paced, let's finish it types. Maybe it wasn't the reason, just that the main character did too much unreasonable stuff.
In the end, sorry again if you think these were spoilers, but they really weren't. You'll see what I mean from the first few chapters and simply dislike this manga. Such a waste of time when you put high hopes into it. Again, this is my personal opinion. If you don't mind stupid moves, unexplained illogical events, and conclusions, then by all means, read it and enjoy it.
Basilisk no Musume is a manga that struggles to find its footing. As a reader, I was unsure whether I should support the heroine or not. The prologue of the story is fantastic, but once it progresses, we are led in so many directions that it becomes challenging to follow. Chiho Saito's characters often have dual natures, so the abrupt shifts in their motivations or personalities were anticipated. However, I felt like I went through a lot only to end up back where I started. The ending was also quite melancholic.
I believe the author kept introducing unexpected twists into the plot, so perhaps it would have been more effective as a longer manga with extended story arcs. The artwork is stunning; Saito's style is instantly recognizable and highly stylized, which is increasingly rare in the world of manga. I appreciated the concept of the characters, but I frequently found myself frustrated by the heroine and her poor decisions. Despite this, it was definitely worth the read, as the resolution, though sad, left me with a better understanding of her as a person. I would recommend it.
