Well, alongside "Ringu Kanzenban," I truly believe this is one of the worthwhile adaptations for anyone looking to explore the "Ring" story.
The artwork is quite solid—it fits well within the horror/investigation genre of manga, at least in my view. The narrative blends elements from the novel with some concepts from Hideo Nakata's first film. I think this combination works best; ultimately, the story remains consistent with the book while incorporating interesting segments from the movie. For instance, Ryuji's character retains his personality from the books but follows a storyline inspired by the film, which I feel enhances the overall product and makes it highly enjoyable.
That said, I do think the art could use more detail during pivotal moments.

I would recommend this adaptation over both the book and Hideo Nakata's movie. This is due to the controversies surrounding the book, such as Ryuji's storyline, as well as the fact that "Ringu" (the movie) is, in my opinion, a poor adaptation and an underwhelming film overall.

    NOT SPOILER FREE
Even though this is an old manga, I should be careful about what I say. However, what I'm about to mention might still be a bit tough to hear. The story was fair at best, but I think bringing in the boyfriend—the one who had the child with the main lead—was a good decision because his research proved quite useful for deciphering the ancient language. That said, I believe this part could have been more drawn out. For instance, during the scene at the funeral when someone was in shock, there could have been more emotional development.

It’s worth noting that this manga was based on the actual Japanese book *The Ring*, which came out before the movie and gained widespread fame. Although it wasn’t all that great, the main storyline was very compelling. However, if you're looking for something closely tied to the movie, this isn't it.
