The smell of blood invaded my nostrils. I watched helplessly as the woman standing over me raised her sword. I was completely drained, I had no mana left, no items, nothing. As the crimson tendrils held me down by my arms and legs, all I could do was wait for my death.

As the sword drew near, I felt the last bit of courage I had disappear. I was going to die. Alone. In this god forsaken place filled with evil. And for what? To protect those ‘friends’? The same people who mocked me, took advantage of, and used me?

Oh, who am I trying to fool? I was here only because of my own greed. Because I wanted to be useful to someone. Because I wanted to that group to need me. To value me. To have a reason to keep me around. How naïve I was, thinking that power would grant those wishes. All it did was help build a wall between me and everyone else.

The sword approached. I saw the purple light reflect off the sword’s blade. After everything I went through, I hadn’t expected my death to be by the hands of another player. I saw her smile, but this time I didn’t think it was beautiful. It was an ugly smile because it was genuine. She was enjoying watching me die. She was enjoying killing me.

The sword struck my chest and pierced my heart. I let out a scream of pain and agony. The pain was so real, all of this was so real. It shouldn’t be, but it was. What should have been a simple game had become my new reality – all of our new reality. A reality filled with magic, war, blood, and death.
My vision darkened as the pain slowly faded. I felt the last of my vitality leave my body. It felt cold. I wondered to myself, when would I stop being? When would my thoughts disappear?

Soon, I saw those words I feared for all this time appear before me. “DEATH”, in the pale blue font the game always used. They remained suspended in the air for several seconds. It was over. After a long time of fighting, grinding, and exploring, it was finally over. I had died. This was the end of my story.

Suddenly, words before me shifted and changed into something different. I took a shallow breath as I heard a faint heartbeat.

I'm just gonna keep this simple. Dweia, the author, knows what she/he is doing. The other book on here written by her/him, 'A Remnant of The Ancients' hooks you as fast as this one. The end of each chapter has you craving for answers and thirsting for more. The spelling and grammar is flawless, and the character building is superb!

Make sure you definitely give this book and the author a chance, I promise you won't miss out!

I was hooked from the start. I like a fast-paced story with solid background.

The author has a good grasp on the main plot and the characters develop nicely while the story unfolds. There were some times that the plot wavered but the end is satisfactory.
The world background (well the novel in general) is very detailed with plenty of descriptions. Though it actually was overwhelming for me at times sinse every little detail was more or less important.

Honestly, ordinarily this work would be at least 4 stars for me. The attention to detail is fantastic as the author seems to notice the little bits about this type of world and using powers that other authors miss.

The writing itself is quite superb with the right mix of adjectives, vivid descriptions and no grammatical errors.

The pacing of the world is jarred, we learn about the new world insidiously; slowly and in a measured manner for multiple chapters and then all of a sudden, information is flying our way from nowhere. This works for this novel though because it creates suspense and carries the reader along.

The immediate flaw of the work is in character interactions, the characters are three-dimensional but in the author's attempt to make them very complex, they often come across as inconsistent, almost in-human.

But the biggest flaw and the main reason for my rating is the MC. He is passive, naive and hopelessly reactive. Unlike other MC's who make things happen and take control, the MC lets things happen and only does something when in a tight spot. As a result, he has somehow ended up being a toy for multiple powerful forces due to his sheer stupidity. He feels very half-hearted without a shred of resolve and thinks and acts like 21st century, first-world **** who has yet to stop suckling at his mother's teat.

He makes for an immensely frustrating read and has brought me to the brink of dropping this work multiple times. It is rare for such a good quality work to have one character Fuck it all up but somehow the author has managed to achieve that.

And I, as a reader, do not know whether to be impressed at the finesse required to achieve such or angry that such a good book has been made sub par by the individual meant to be its linchpin.

Future event synopsis ruined it for me.

Not a big fan of that. It was a major spoiler.

I Wasted my time reading this.

the fact that the synopsis is not the start of the story but a far away event in the future makes the synopsis redundant. ppl read a book based on the synopsis because it sheds light on what to expect. But here ppl read the synopsis and then wonder why after all those chapters nothing happens. It's like this synopsis is from another book.
very disappointing since I couldn't care less about the boring build up for his betrayal by his 'friends'.

The worst part is that the story should only start after he dies and the endless chapters right now are filler chapters.

Very good writing quality but very poor story design . There is no sense of anticipation in the first half of the story because of the synopsis.

The summary would make you believe the MC was somehow abused or mistreated. I've read the prologue (which is frustratingly long and lasts 5 chapters) and nothing of sorts is happening. In fact, everyone is super-nice to him and he is the one who acts weird and extremely paranoid.

To main character, Kai, is some introverted kid with inferiority complex so deep, he flinches even when people give him compliments. He can't talk to his mother, he can't talk to his landlady and he can barely communicate with his new friends. If (on of his friends) wasn't so social and kept inviting him in, he'd probably never had any friends at all.

All along the story (as far as I read) he is complaining on an on in his head, feeling miserable for no reason, even when his friends offer him amazing adventure, he somehow twists it in his head to feel like a victim of kidnapping. Its like if you constantly hear ominous music playing in the background of his life...

Really, if something bad happens to him in the story, I would feel satisfaction. He probably deserves it at some point.
