When I was in elementary school, a girl came to stay at my house for a homestay.
Being a foreigner and unable to speak Japanese well, she couldn’t possibly fit into the circle of children at school and ended up being left out, something I remember well.
So, I was the one who spent time with her. Constantly, throughout the half-year period.
On the last day, she was crying the whole time.
She wouldn’t get into the car that came to pick her up, and wouldn’t let go of my hand.
“Sob… If we can meet again… will you… make me your wife…?”
“Ah, of course.”
It seems that the me back then thought of it as nothing more than a casual promise.
Well, it’s a sweet memory from childhood.
