I read the first two chapters, and I can tell exactly that the author didn't know how to write a novel. He failed to set the tone of the story, failed to introduce the main character, failed to establish the plot, failed to lay the foundation for world-building. The first chapter, which should have been the most captivating, was wasted on setting up a conspiracy involving characters I don't know and don't care about, as the author never gave me a chance to know or bond with them.
.
At first, I thought it was just a short prologue. I expected the author to circle back and set up the plot after it ended. However, that wasn't the case, he simply ignored all of it. After reached chapter 19 without a single hint of plot, I decided to drop it.
.
Sometimes it's just so obvious that the author doesn't know how to write. He may or may not have a good story in his head, but without writing skill, it's all useless.
