After Shu Shu died, she discovered that she was actually the early-deceased “white moonlight” of the male protagonist in a novel—the woman who ran away while pregnant.
Her children were merely the cannon-fodder counterparts to the heroine’s children.
Her son drifted outside society and became a street thug. He competed with the heroine’s top-student son for the girl they both liked, became a laughingstock, and eventually went down the wrong path and ended up in prison.
Her daughter, having lacked a mother’s love since childhood, grew up dull and socially awkward. She coped by binge eating and became very overweight. She competed with the heroine’s fairy-like daughter for the position of concertmaster violinist in the orchestra, but an accident crippled her hand, causing her to lose her sanity, and she was ultimately abandoned by the family.
In the original story’s ending, the heroine replaced the white moonlight in the male lead’s heart. Her outstanding children were also recognized by the male lead’s family, and the whole family lived happily ever after.
The good news: Shu Shu was reborn.
The bad news: she was reborn into her 18-year-old self—but at a time when her son was already 17.
