However, my opinion has changed since the introduction of the UK/RU conflict arc. The story became increasingly absurd and nonsensical, and the protagonist's loss of her language abilities, which were integral to the original premise, was a major letdown. As a result, I now rate this work 2 out of 5 stars.
The major issue lies in how the author handles her powers; it comes across as overly artificial and clichéd. Characters praise her every move, almost as if tailored for admiration. It's unrealistic that everyone would adore her, and her abilities aren't fully fleshed out. The story seems stagnant, with no room for growth or surprises. It's a repetitive cycle of her gaining popularity, learning more languages, and receiving constant adoration.
If you're looking for a light, fluffy read that requires minimal engagement, it might be passable. But if you crave something more substantial, this might not be the book for you.
While the premise with Russia's attack on Ukraine and the looming nuclear war provides a captivating backdrop, the narrative shifts to the protagonist's involvement in a presidential election, which feels like a missed opportunity. The crisis could have been addressed in a more impactful way if the MC utilized her linguistic skills to mobilize global support, perhaps by organizing a united effort at the UN or倡导 disarmament.
Instead of exploring themes of diplomacy, activism, and unity through her unique powers, the story settles for a superficial political solution. It leaves me longing for a more profound exploration of the MC's capabilities and their potential to bring about real change on a global scale.
In summary, while there might be potential in the story, it falls short for me due to its weak execution when it comes to tackling the world-saving aspect. A more engaging narrative would have arisen if the author had ventured beyond political campaigns and showcased the protagonist's extraordinary abilities in more meaningful ways.
I'd rate it 4 or 4.5 out of 5 for its quality, but my personal preference leans towards a 3.5. My issue lies with the "saving the world" theme, despite the engaging buildup. The story introduces the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a backdrop, effectively contributing to the narrative, but the protagonist's role in averting disaster ends up being rather underwhelming. Instead of utilizing her linguistic skills for global initiatives like coordinating a grassroots movement, diplomacy, or nuclear disarmament, she mainly focuses on assisting her VTuber friend's mother in winning a US election.
While I understand the potential for the story to evolve, the current resolution feels simplistic and unsatisfying, given the preceding context. The idea of a magical campaign through translated content seems clichéd, and it's disappointing that such a well-developed character and premise don't explore more ambitious solutions.
Despite this criticism, the characters and their development are enjoyable, particularly the language-related aspects. The backstory, with the MC's past life connection and the growth-induced memory loss, adds depth to the tale.
In summary, if you're into action-packed narratives, this might not be your cup of tea. However, fans of VTuber series are likely to appreciate the story, given its focus on that genre. The potential for a more substantial saving-the-world plot is what keeps me hoping for a shift in direction in future chapters.
