This is my first Korean novel of this genre, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. The main character doesn't bother me; I simply go along with his story. I could easily read a thousand chapters about his everyday celebrity life, though it seems we're nearing the conclusion. Hats off to the translator and the kidnappers for their contributions!
The characters, especially Kiyoshi, are incredibly well-developed. I'm eager to see the character portrayed in a film adaptation, as Kiyoshi has left a lasting impression on me. The concept of karma explored in the novel resonated with me, despite my initial frustration with the ending of Death Note. I appreciate the novel's unique take on karma, and I'm longing for a movie adaptation to satisfy my curiosity.
Just a heads up, the author may not align with everyone's preferences, as their descriptions, settings, and social aspects might differ. However, I find it interesting to explore a Korean perspective through their work. If you're sensitive to these aspects, it's worth keeping in mind.
In summary, I absolutely adore this novel. With over 300 chapters, I wish it would never end. As I search for more books in a similar vein, I realize this genre has become a newfound favorite of mine.
Plot: 3/5
Characters: 1/5
The world-building leaves much to be desired at 2/5. The protagonist is surrounded by an overwhelming sense of主角光环, with everyone else existing solely to崇拜 him. Side characters are shallowly developed, and the protagonist's journey in the entertainment industry remains superficial. His unique talent, 'void,' is underutilized.
Financial aspects are unclear; we don't see the protagonist's earnings or his efforts to help friends advance in their careers. He comes across as narcissistic, greedy, and self-absorbed.
The main character's portrayal is problematic – while similar to the Manhwa "Return of Mount Hua Sect" protagonist, that one was likable, whereas this one falls flat. Despite attempts to paint him as kind and benevolent, it doesn't ring true.
My biggest issue, however, is that this is essentially a fanfiction. The final 200 chapters copy scenes from films like Parasite, Joker, and Batman almost verbatim. Romance is another sore point – every female character is fixated on the protagonist, with no real exploration of genuine relationships.
In the climax, the protagonist chooses a girlfriend simply because she confessed first, without any declaration of love. It's disappointing how the story went downhill after an initial promising start.
