Story: This one is definitely to my liking. It has a very interesting plot, with a girl being dragged into the past due to events that occurred there. She's on a quest to find seven blades of a historic sword, unaware that she herself is a blade. Then it introduces a woman who wants to forge a new sword and a man seeking the sword to break free from his 1,000-year-old prison, making the story increasingly intriguing. I'll admit the story can get confusing at times, but re-reading the previous page clears things up. By volume 8, the story has become so tense that it pains me to wait until September for the next book. The battle scenes and suspense have reached an all-time high.
Art: It's got a bit of everything. The chibi's are absolutely adorable at times, the girls range from cute to drop-dead gorgeous, and the boys are all great too (except the "mad monk," but he wasn't meant to be a main character). What I found interesting is the lack of toning in the characters—none have toned hair, and only a few have toned clothes. However, the lack of shading is balanced out by the ink Kara uses generously in her pages.
Character: Eun-Gyo is a peppy rebel, No-ah is an easily irritated bishie, and Ho-Dong is a wise-guy adult trapped in a kid's body—what's not to love about these three main characters? Poong is another character I adore, as he brightens any mood with his carefree attitude and playful actions, and he's also one of the more unpredictable fellows. I also enjoyed Sook-Chung's brief presence and was saddened by his untimely fate. Lastly, I dislike Hwa since she's a bit of a crazed lady in deadly love, but I'm looking forward to seeing more of her. I believe she shows good character development. To sum it all up, all the characters have something special about them, but they each play their part in the story and all have their own turmoil tied to the plot.
Enjoyment: Each volume takes a step into harsher battles, more revelations, and more questions, keeping the reader eagerly anticipating the next one. Once you witness one turmoil unfold, you're ready to see a new one. I literally had to buckle myself in for the ride this manga gave me (since I was in the car XD). Some pages in volumes 7 and 8 I can't stop looking at because they're just so intense and exciting. The excitement isn't just added for filler; all scenes flow nicely with the story's development.
Overall: This series is my first manhwa I read, and I must say it's the greatest "first" you could have with something like this. This series is so gripping that I'll be going to Borders later only to cry when I see that volume 9 isn't there yet. If you're looking for a great fantasy with some romance but a strong focus on the story, this is THE manhwa for you.
