If you want a constantly suffering protagonist, then ToCF might be for you, tho since it's one of the top ranking novels, you probably have read it already. If you haven't read it yet however, I suggest you read it, some find it boring in the early chapters but, around chapter 100+ the action people seek should slowly start, and from then onwards, most of the chapters would be about scheming and fighting.
