As for why I'm reading it, it's because I'm looking for something new and lengthy to fill my reading list. However, I wouldn't wholeheartedly recommend it, as I might have abandoned it halfway due to the slow pace and occasional dragging sections.
Here are some additional issues I've encountered:
- The plot revolves around the academy, where abilities reign supreme. It seems the original world doesn't explore alternative survival methods, or if they do, the protagonist lacks the intelligence to utilize them effectively.
- Misunderstandings between characters prolong the romantic tension unnecessarily, which can be frustrating. The author appears to be padding the story for length, but eventual love scenes do take place.
- The character ages are conveniently set up to justify older teacher-student relationships without feeling inappropriate. It's best to overlook this aspect, as the characters don't actually act their age.
In summary, while the book has its moments, it's not a standout choice due to its predictable nature and pacing issues. If you're after a more engaging and well-rounded story, you might want to consider other options.
The plot involves a poorly-skilled MC, who after two months of minimal effort, manages to qualify for a prestigious university due to an arbitrary assessment. This is criticized as plot armor, as there's no evidence of genuine hard work. The character's leisurely thoughts about pursuing relationships suggest a lack of dedication to training. The love interest is attracted to him because of his daily, albeit ineffective, practice, which is more likely to evoke pity rather than attraction.
Lastly, the MC stays in a familiar setting despite his poor abilities, choosing to restrict himself to university instead of utilizing his potential in trading, exploring dungeons, or seeking untapped treasures. This choice reflects a narrow-minded approach to life.
In summary, the novel suffers from an overly confident protagonist, superficial character development, and a predictable storyline that fails to engage readers beyond surface-level appeal.
The grading system, where individuals have ranks from Legendary to Common, is a unique concept. However, the way the author implemented it feels forced, as the protagonist, despite having the lowest grade, is later portrayed as having a special attribute. Instead of focusing on overcoming the grade disparity, the story hints at the significance of his attribute, which undermines the initial setup.
There's a concern about the novel potentially heading towards a poorly executed harem plot. While harem stories can work, the issue here lies in the addition of characters without proper development. The first heroine, the wind sword girl, initially seems promising, but the story introduces others like the teacher, who were once favorites, without giving them the same depth. It feels like the author is rushing to populate the harem, rather than focusing on meaningful connections.
Additionally, the main character's inconsistent personality is another issue. There are moments of growth, like acknowledging weakness and striving to improve, but the character's resilience is questionable. He endures torture but then suddenly seeks companionship and indulges in activities that undermine his growth. A strong-willed protagonist should be dedicated to their path, but this character's wavering commitment dilutes the authenticity.
In summary, while the novel may not be inherently bad, the combination of machine translation and the author's choices, such as the forced system and rushed character development, detract from the overall quality. It seems the author is struggling to balance various elements, leading to inconsistencies that personally detract from my enjoyment of the story.
