“I ask with all my heart. Please marry me.”
After his tragic death, the sidekick Prince Renato regressed to the past. He approached the Khan Kingdom’s diplomatic ambassador, grand prince Khalid, who helped him in his life before regression, to change the future.
Renato offered a contractual marriage with good conditions, and Khalid finally agreed to the marriage after much deliberation, but……
“I hate complicated things like a contract or a deal. So please let me ask you just one question.”
Renato’s answer at this moment would change everything. Khalid fixed his gaze on Renato and opened his mouth with a more serious expression than usual.
“Do you need my help?”

There's a subtle spoiler here: I generally oppose hypnotherapy due to its widespread misuse, but I appreciate that the novel doesn't rely on typical hypnosis but rather a specific method used by psychoanalysts. That said, the plot involving a frozen body and Renato's speech difficulties aligns with what one might expect from such a technique.
While the suggestion of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) was unexpected, I understand that it's challenging to explain in a novel. Overall, the writing is impressive.
However, author, why must you make me cry so intensely? Even my own experiences with PTSD couldn't elicit such emotions. In terms of storytelling, this novel rates a perfect 10 out of 10. The translation is flawless too.
In short, I would rate this novel a full 10 out of 10. I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a read – I'm eagerly awaiting more chapters! Hehehehe.
However, what I appreciate is that these elements aren't overlooked; they serve as a backdrop without overwhelming the narrative. You understand that conflicts exist and how the protagonist navigates them, which keeps the story's logic intact, even when it leans towards being a calm, romance-centered tale with minimal conflict. This approach resonates with me because, despite knowing about the future, the character's journey involves thoughtful planning and engagement with the political landscape, albeit not excessively detailed.
The translation quality is top-notch, and the release schedule is consistent, giving me high hopes for the series' continued success.
Regarding the genre blend of Western fantasy, Omegaverse, and palace/political drama, previous reviews and the translator have highlighted that this is primarily a romance novel, with other plot elements taking a backseat. If you were hoping for a grand scope similar to "Turning," this might not be the right fit for you, considering the difference in content and the gradual development of the romance in the series. "Sidekick Prince" is significantly shorter than "Turning," so don't expect extensive world-building or plot complexity.
The world-building in "Sidekick Prince" borrows elements from East-Western fusion, which is common in K-dramas and J-literature. While it doesn't adhere strictly to historical accuracy, that's part of the fantasy genre's appeal. It's been established early on that the imperial family has limits on spouse numbers, with the Emperor having one Empress and one Imperial Consort. Comparisons to real-life historical figures like the Hongzhi Emperor don't justify complaints about the number of wives in the story.
There are supporting magical creatures like shamans, elves, and dwarves, but they aren't the central focus. The MC is a human with fairy blood, and the ML is a knight, so it's reasonable to assume less emphasis on magic or elf-related details. These creatures do have significant moments in the background, though.
Fairy blood plays a crucial role in the plot, explaining the MC's regression and the beginning of his troubles. So, it's essential not to overlook such integral aspects when reading the story.
Regarding the beta characters, they are often stigmatized due to their perceived lack of development compared to alphas and omegas. However, the story handles this theme well, showing that abuse mainly comes from specific individuals rather than the beta status itself. The beta characters are portrayed with depth, even if they don't undergo extensive character growth.
In the Omegaverse context, the rules have been clearly laid out: male betas can only reproduce with female betas or dominant omegas. It's crucial to understand the unique biology of this universe within the story, rather than importing preconceived notions from other omegaverse narratives.
Finally, the work is centered around romance, but it does give depth to secondary characters with their own personalities, backgrounds, and emotional arcs, especially within the imperial family.
In summary, while the story might not cater to everyone's preferences, it offers a well-crafted world with a focus on romance, while acknowledging and exploring the complexities of beta characters and the Omegaverse dynamics.
I appreciate how the author handles the portrayal of trauma, showing Renato's struggle and the importance of seeking help. It's refreshing to see a protagonist grapple with real-life issues rather than easily overcoming them. Watching Renato grow and develop is a beautiful journey. And Trudy, oh Trudy, your lovable character adds a delightful touch to the story.
I'm looking forward to completing the novel and updating my review. In my opinion, this is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-crafted, emotionalBL (boys' love) story. It's a true gem that deserves all the praise it can get.
