Evolution from Carp to Divine Dragon

I became intrigued after reading the manga adaptation and desired to explore the story beyond it. Luckily, a webnovel was available, which provided a contrasting experience. It's fascinating to observe the disparities between the novel and manga versions, as the main character (MC) initially perished due to a monster attack, only to重生为一条鱼. He discovers that his world is far more perilous than he initially thought. Thankfully, the MC reincarnates relatively quickly, still within the same universe, which allowed for continuity. In the manga, there's a helpful system guiding him through tasks and rewards, whereas the webnovel presents a more self-reliant narrative, allowing the MC to better understand his situation and adapt to survive for a longer time, eventually aiming to communicate with his loved one. I'm eagerly anticipating the next chapters.

I am thoroughly enjoying the narrative; I managed to devour over 100 chapters without a break. The translation has been exceptional thus far, with no glaring errors or awkward phrases that caught my attention.

The pacing strikes a perfect balance, steadily advancing the main character's (MC) system development every few chapters. Battles have been well-paced, even when stretched across multiple installments, never feeling unnecessarily drawn out.

Although the MC seems to have experienced some fortunate coincidences involving third parties, the motivations behind these events are adequately explained and make sense, so it doesn't come across as contrived. The slow apocalypse setting offers intrigue, as it promises answers unlike many other apocalyptic tales I've encountered. However, the gradual progression of the event seems inconsistent with what we've seen so far.

Character-wise, there hasn't been much depth yet, but the MC's concern for his parents and early introduction of his deceased girlfriend hint at future interactions and a chance to explore his personality more.

Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds and delving deeper into the MC's character development.

The book provides a leisurely reading experience, as the evolutionary process尽管有磨砺但节奏还算适中，不至于让人感到重复。尽管背景设定稍显模糊，但主角身为一条鱼，活动范围局限于河流湖泊，这样的局限性可以理解，毕竟如果他变成人类，故事就失去了意义（比如《升级的怪物》）。故事似乎在逐步构建一个背景谜团，这让我对随着基因突变的发展抱有好奇，期待它会走向现代农耕、猎人与地下城的世界，或者是末日景象，又或是其他独特的路径。

目前我唯一觉得不足的是主角进化的速度较慢，性格略显平淡无奇，行动带来的成长也不够显著。他在章节52处似乎接近一个瓶颈，我对接下来是否会有一个力量跃升以及跃升后的变化充满期待。

The concept of evolution, though tried and true, seems to be effective. I'm not particularly fond of the systemic aspect, but perhaps there will be improvements in the future. What stands out is that the story is set in contemporary society and has been executed impressively, with continuous improvement, which is quite unusual for content from China.

So far, this book is interesting and I am loving the chemistry between Ashley and Alex Wayne. Can't wait to read how it all goes down.
