By mid-story, I could relate to the dynamics of the time, believing it was necessary for balance in the court. Despite having multiple children and consorts, he genuinely cared for the MC, though this isn't explicitly shown in the narrative. She views him as her children's father, which is reasonable given the context. They both have feelings for each other, but her love for her kids prevails.
