Liam gently shut the door and advanced toward Nora, his every step heightening her fear. She instinctively retreated, her back hitting the icy wall. He fixed his gaze on her, his rich cello-like voice echoing through the room, "Nora Shahan, haven't you remembered what I said three years ago? Don't provoke me; yet you continually tested my patience." He grabbed her chin firmly and asked, "Now, how should I discipline you?"
Her eyes met his cold, piercing stare, sending shivers down her spine. This was the true Liam she had glimpsed – cold and unyielding. She foolishly believed he had mellowed, but now a wave of bitterness washed over her. Closing her eyes, she let the floodgates of memories from the past open.
Three years prior, he had sternly warned her to stay away, and she had adhered to the distance, avoiding him whenever possible. Their paths rarely crossed, even in the same classroom where she maintained a vigilant distance. Yet, irony struck when she found herself trapped in his home. He initially thought it another attempt to lure him, but she knew it was a sinister plot.
With his family resorting to despicable tactics to tear apart his world, could Liam rescue her from the nightmare that was his home? How would Nora cope living under the same roof with a man whose presence had always been a terror, discovering the darkest secrets that threatened to bind them together and unravel their lives?

Of course, the beginning smelled like it would be a generic OP protagonist story, but the later chapters do a very good job of keeping the OPness and still making the story interesting.
There was a Lovecraftian flair to the whole concept, but the "corrupted information leading to brain explosion" cliche didn't appear here, so I'm very happy. World building is top-notch, battle scenes are nicely done, each of the nine faiths/Gods are well thought out and have a deep backstory behind them. Plus, I hate Chinese cultivation novels with repeated young master annoyances, so this was the only great novel among the recent additions (including the English originals), so I'm giving it a full 5-stars after comparing its competitors.
