Harsh? I beg to differ. The tone... perhaps, but the points are true. I strictly emphasized the lack of layers in the characterization, which is true, since, I don't know if you'll get this but I try to visualize the "blueprint" or "framework" of the character if that makes sense.
And some characters are illustrated in a way that follows a very common structure among various works. From their mentality, to dialogue and speech patterns, hence I deemed "generic".
And yes I am well aware the use of archetypes in literature is necessary to create recognizable and relatable characters. Fundamental, might I add. But adding extra layers could go a long way.
Laughs and grins? Well, I'm glad it worked for you, but that's not enough for me. I am fine with the light-hearted moments but subjectively, it registers to me as filler.
My point is, this novel is lacking, but not unreadable. If that were the case, I would've labeled it as "brainrot". Its content passable but not enough imo.
