Instead of distracting from the main story, those little moments make the manga truly special.  Umino-sensei cares about the little things in everyday life and she’s crafting an incredible portrait of a Japanese neighborhood.  I love the shogi stuff, but honestly, it’s the heartwarming content that I’m truly in love with about Sangatsu (and the food, of course.  Akari’s cooking must be heavenly).
