Weaker participants want to free ride off the stronger ones that can beat the fighting stage but the stronger ones don't benefit from that. Those in the middle are now trying to take advantage of the weaker ones to escape since they don't want to risk dying and/or don't even care about moving on to the next stage and just want to leave the banquet.
